The ensemble has performed from Norway to Austria, taking part in world class festivals in the Netherlands and Germany. The varied nationalities of the ensemble's members combined with the group's range of music, and performance locations to make Alerĭon a truly European ensemble. Alerĭon recently recorded its debut album "Lachrymarium", a disc of English Elegies, for the German label Spektral Records,
at the beautiful monastery in Stams, Austria.
Alerĭon has no conductor, instead relying on the musical interpretation of the singers, each of whom plays an equally important role in rehearsal and performance. This collaborative approach allows the singers a high degree of artistic freedom, leading to exciting and expressive performances. The Alerĭon is an eagle-like creature found in
medieval bestiaries, and described in the poem 'the Tale of the Alerĭon' by fourteenth-century French musician and poet Guillaume de Machaut. The symbol of the bird reflects the ensemble's roots in the AVES programme, and is reminiscent of Plato's writing, that music 'gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything'.

Abgesehen von seiner bestechenden Transparenz und Klangschönheit, gelingt es Alerion die Texte ungemein anschaulich und ausdrucksstark wiederzugeben. — Apart from its captivating transparency and beauty of sound, Alerion succeeds in rendering the texts immensely vividly and expressively.
I am amused.
So sad.
